Introspection at a Country Music Concert
What attending a Luke Combs show taught me about myself
A few weekends ago I attended a Luke Combs concert at Ford Field in Detroit. For those who don’t know, Luke Combs is currently one of the biggest names in country music.
His lyrics often fit the stereotype of the genre. Songs about drinking beer and hanging out with your buddies were the easy listening I used to really enjoy throughout my 20s.
In fact, I had built a whole identity out of these types of songs. Obsessed with drinking beer with my friends and perpetuating a persona that these songs were a part of who I was.
Until they weren’t.
It isn’t necessarily that these songs are no longer a part of who I am. I still enjoy hanging out with my buddies and the overall simplicity that is projected in country music songs.
More so it is that these songs no longer define who I am.
After having my first true panic attacks a few years ago I realized that I need to have a more honest relationship with some of my anxieties.
That chasing a lifestyle that is projected in country music was no longer sustainable for me.
