What I learned through Meditation

How it helped me develop a better understanding of my mind

I have always been a chronic overthinker. I would constantly run through different variables in my head to arrive at a conclusion. The “gut feeling” that so many people describe seemingly didn’t exist for me, it had been replaced by a rigid set of thoughts I had about myself.

During a period when I went through a lot of change this approach to my life caught up with me. I had moved back home to be with family and friends in addition to starting a new relationship. During the few years I was away I hadn’t realized how much I, and the situation back home, had changed.

From the moment I arrived my mind was racing, a perpetual loop of evaluating how I fit in my new relationship and with a lifestyle different from the one I had left behind.

Eventually, I couldn’t stop thinking. My thoughts had become an uninterrupted loop of trying to re-find myself in an area where I thought I was supposed to be comfortable.

This led to the first mental breakdown I had ever had. Completely lost in thought I had a hard time making even the smallest of decisions.

Realizing I need some type of help I had turned to an app called Headspace to help slow my mind down. Curated with different…
